No Kings Portland Oregon

Image
Another of the police and ICE shooting pepper balls and teargas during the day, before curfew, at children and the disabled, with no warning.  Me in the spaghetti factory bathroom one of the only businesses letting protesters use they're bathrooms. I actually wanted to say a bit about this. I cannot tell you how surreal and dystopian it feels, to get teargassed and almost shot, to see children be carried out onto stretchers, to bandage my community's wounds and spray saline in they're eyes, and then walk in to a over 20ft mansion with glass chandeliers and golden walls. Young women in tights and dresses serving food on silver platters to people in suits. I cant express how unreal it felt to walk in, in a full IN95 mask and a backpack full of medic aid into what I walked into. Utterly dystopian in a way I can never explain.  protesters holding signs in the middle of teargas. Peaceful protesters trying to dodge gas and pepper balls.  A young woman filling a reusable ...

No Kings Part 2 in Portland, Oregon

Image
October 18, ICE surrounds the sidewalk where peaceful protesters stand No Kings protest in downtown Portland Oregon.  Specifically 4310 S Macadam Ave. They shot at the crowd with pepper balls (considered a "not lethal weapon") and teargas. They gave no warning as I watched them teargas children during the middle of the day.   A protester with a full face respirator to fight off the teargas. Right after this they threw gas into the street and I had to help an older woman off her motorcycle and get saline solution in her eyes.  The Cascadia flag flies over the gas; The flag serves as a beacon of hope flying high above the rubble that ICE has left in our streets.

Portland ICE protest

Image
October 13th 2025, in Portland Oregon at US immigration and customs enforcement. these are federal officers and or ICE or coast guard I don't know as they would not identify themselves. They came out in groups like this a couple times and just pushed people on the sidewalk or got really close to the press. Two men in riot gear waiving a Cascadia flag.   A local band played they didn't name a band or anything and were in too much of a rush for me to ask any questions. They mentioned a clarinetist who was recently arrested for playing outside of the facility. They set up in barely even a few minutes and left just as quickly probably out of fear of being detained or arrested.

Moon and White Lies

Image
Going to steal tha moon! in Albany OR near an elementary school.  These were the photos from the white lies party I went to. It was very fun I talked to these girls after I took the photos. in Corvallis the concept of the "white lies" is that you're supposed to write something on your skirt that is obviously a lie.  I love how free these next two photos look. Nothing but dance, sweat, energy and fashion. The girl in the second photo told me her skirt was just 12 scarves tied together.

My Three Photos

Image
I can't figure out how to edit my first blog so this is my Three Photos haha                  this one I took at the lake was perfectly in the sun and in a branch I took way too many                               and I couldn't stand to delete any of them.                                           This one was about 5AM and already late for work about to hop in the shower and everything was so pink and messy also featuring some indulgences so it felt very bitter sweet in a way and I just thought it was pretty. The last one was obviously taken at LBCC with the event we went too, nothing special just kind of needed a good photo that captured people i think I did it well because everyone is facing the camera, its good quality.

My First Blog

HI I'm Ashlie I'm studying journalism; I love to read and sad music. I work with disabled children and line cooking. I took this class to give me a better idea of journalism as a whole, I don't have too much experience in photography other than a class i took in freshman year of high school. my three goals are: 1. To try to take more protest photos as i frequent them. 2. to learn to take more accurate and professional photos. 3. hopefully learn somewhat about journalism as a whole.
